WRFC Coaching Setup for 2011/2
Dear Wanderers,
We are very pleased to announce a new coaching structure for the upcoming season as well as the reintroduction of our 4th team. With the great success of the club and our ever-growing playing membership over the last few years we recognized the need for some better structure and also more individual coaching to our players as well as more rugby on Saturdays.
Last season we regularly had 50+ players at training sessions which is great but only having one or two coaches made it very difficult for anyone to get anything out of it. Hopefully with the new structure our sessions and games will run a lot more smoothly and therefore be more enjoyable for everyone.
The new structure is as follows:
James Forrester (Director of Rugby): Responsible for managing the coaching team, selection, structures of sessions, and player recruitment. James has been involved in coaching the Singapore National team and is the current Singapore 7s team coach. James brings a huge amount of experience from his playing days with Gloucester Rugby in the UK as well as with England.
Rhys Jones (Premiership Head Coach): Responsible for running training sessions and coaching the WRFC Premiership team, overseeing the 2nd team and mentoring members of the coaching team. Rhys has been involved with the Wanderers for many years, coaching across many Grades, as well as the Academy and 7s sides. Rhys is a full-time schools coach and has led his teams to multiple Championships during his time in Singapore. Rhys is a qualified IRB Level 3 coach and formerly represented Wales at U21 level.
Izzy Kadir (Premiership Assistant Coach): Responsible for coaching skills and Premiership attack, as well as the Backs coach. Izzy will also provide mentorship for the other members of the coaching team. Izzy is a rugby development officer with ARFU and a qualified IRB Level 3 coach. Izzy represented Singapore for over ten years.
Paul Clayton (2nd team coach): Responsible for coaching and selecting the Wanderers 2nd team. Paul is a former player with Leeds Rugby in the UK and is now a qualified IRB Level 1 coach.
Sam Gibbins (2nd team coach): Responsible for coaching and selecting the Wanderers 2nd team with Paul. Sam has been a member of the WRFC Executive Committee for the past two seasons, having retired from the game following a serious neck injury whilst playing for WRFC. Sam is a qualified IRB Level 1 coach and is well on the way to completing his Level 2 qualification.
Calven Bland and Matthew O’Leary (3rd/4th team coaches): Jointly responsible for coaching and selecting the Wanderers 3rd and 4th teams, under the tutelage of the coaching mentors. Calven is a qualified IRB Level 1 coach and is well on the way to completing his Level 2 qualification, and Matt is working towards his qualifications over the coming months.
Firstly, well done to all those guys above who have recently completed their IRB qualifications, a great effort. As you can see we have put together an outstanding team that I think a lot of much more senior clubs would be proud of. All you have to do is make sure you turn up regularly to training sessions at Kallang and utilize the set up. I am positive it is going to be a great season and I'm sure an improved experience for all. In the coming weeks, we will be announcing the captains for the different squads.
You should all now be well into your own personal preparation in terms of training in the gym and also extra fitness work. The work we do in training is not enough, you NEED to be doing the extras!
See you all at training.
Regards
Jango |
